About Fillmore Outdoors
Fillmore Outdoors documents a return. The writer behind it has real history in this world — years of running, trail miles, time outdoors — and then years away from it. This site is the way back, done properly: an evidence-based training strategy built on ISSA guidelines for road and trail running, with tactical conditioning and calisthenics folded in, tested on the author in real time and reported honestly. Fillmore Outdoors is a publication of FLMOR Media, LLC, a Texas limited liability company.
How this works: the casebook
Every training block here is pre-registered — the plan, the reasoning, and the success criteria are published before the block starts, and the plan is frozen from that moment. Then it gets run on a real body with a real schedule, logged, and reported against exactly what was promised: adherence numbers, what got modified and why, what didn't work. Data over feelings; misses included. The author isn't the subject of this site — he's the instrument. The question every article answers isn't "how's his training going?" It's "does this approach work, and what does that mean for yours?"
Who this is for
People coming back, or leveling up with limited time. You're not starting from zero — you have history, a demanding job, and maybe a decade of "I'll get back to it." You want a plan that upholds both your past and your constraints, and you're skeptical of fitness content that's either credentialed-but-generic or personal-but-unqualified. This site exists to be the third thing: professional-grade programming, tested in public, on a schedule that looks like yours.
The progression we cover
- Foundation — running & conditioning. Rebuilding the base: ISSA-guided run programming, with tactical training and calisthenics as the strength and durability layer. This is where the return starts, and where most of the casebook lives today.
- The trails — hiking & trail running. Transferring the base to terrain: trail-specific conditioning, hiking as time on feet, the road-to-trail bridge.
- The objective — lightweight camping, toward fastpacking. Fastpacking is trail running and lightweight camping fused into one discipline — the destination this whole progression points at. Until we've earned it, camping coverage here is honestly framed as preparation: the systems, skills, and gear research for where we're headed.
- The companion — trail dogs. The thread that runs the whole arc: conditioning a dog alongside your own return, trail readiness, and the gear that holds up.
How we're different
Most outdoor and fitness coverage is one of two things: comprehensive but opinion-light, or clearly written to maximize affiliate clicks. We try to be the third thing — opinionated, technical when it matters, willing to say a popular product or protocol is overrated, and honest about where we make money. And there's one thing here that can't be faked: the pre-registered block. Publish a plan before running it, then report against it, and be willing to fail publicly against the criteria stated up front. Week nine of a program the author is actually living is not something a content farm can produce.
Gear gets reviewed here because the program called for it — with the logged miles and reps attached. You can read our full editorial standards and our affiliate disclosure.
The author
Fillmore Outdoors is written by one author. He holds an ISSA Running Coachcertification, which grounds the run programming here in a certifying body's doctrine rather than internet consensus; the strength and conditioning work draws on ISSA's Tactical Conditioning curriculum.
A note on scope: this site documents one case, guided by certified frameworks. It is not medical advice. If you're returning after a long period ofinactivity or managing a health condition, check in with your physician before starting any program here.
